Hairstylist Jen Atkin Announces New Book ‘Blowing My Way to the Top’

For those who follow celebrities like the Kardashians and Chrissy Teigen on Instagram, their hairstylist and friend Jen Atkin is nearly as famous — and just as famously outspoken. The founder of Ouai has never been one to censor herself, and her success proves that there’s no need to do so in order to reach the top of one’s chosen industry. So it comes as no surprise that her new book about that very success has an unapologetically suggestive title that’s got everyone talking.

Blowing My Way to the Top was revealed on Atkin’s Instagram grid on Wednesday, July 1, to much comment-section fanfare. “They said I could call it whatever I want…sorry Mom! 🤷🏻‍♀️,” Atkin wrote in the caption, referring to the tongue-in-cheek title of the book. Atkin is seen on the cover pointing a blowdryer at her hair, but the name is clearly meant to suggest that Atkin used… um… other means to achieve her success in the beauty industry.

Friends and fans are loving the announcement — and the title, of course. “Stooooooop it rn🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 the title thooooooooo 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌,” one commenter wrote, while Mindy Kaling wrote, “Eeeeeeek! I’m so excited! What a great title too! I hope I’m referenced as a ‘difficult Indian actress.'” Other celebrities to pile on the congratulations include Cindy Crawford, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, Lily Collins, Hailey Bieber, and some of the most recognizable fellow beauty pros, like Justine Marjan and Mario Dedivanovic.

Part memoir, part self-help book, Blowing My Way to the Top “chronicles her remarkable journey and shares what she’s learned along the way,” according to her official website. Don’t expect advice on how to do your hair — instead, expect advice on how to make it in your dream career, including how she applied feminist philosophies to her business, befriended her competition, and made the most of social-media content.
